Patrizia Borsa is a translator and language trainer in the field of integration.

She helped Radwan Kayse Cisse craft his poems.

This is how she describes the journey with Radwan:

September 2019: I meet Radwan in the framework of "E-Voliamo," a project carried out by SOS Ticino to promote the training and integration in Switzerland of young migrants and in which I participate as a teacher of Italian.

Radwan is a Somali boy, a stranger among others, each with his own story. The group is very diverse and Radwan, due to his introverted nature, often sits at the back of the class. He is of few words.

Nov. 26, 2019: Radwan begins to make his voice heard. He sends me by WhatsApp his first poem. I read it, and every word moves me deeply. I correct the text, send it back to him, invite him to write, and to write more. Radwan sends me poems almost every day. The channel of writing becomes his way to communicate, to process the past, without forgetting it. I listen to him.

And so it is that, through this deeply true dialogue, composed of many small pearls, a collection of poems entitled I was born twice (still unpublished) slowly takes shape over the nine months of his formative journey.

Radwan's work was born during the empty, dark months of the pandemic. It is a silent dialogue, full of spontaneity, emotionality and infinite wisdom. It is a message of hope, in a world that does not always know how to welcome what is different. It is an invitation to look at life through the eyes of a boy who has crossed the desert and the sea in search of a better life. It is a hymn to courage, addressed to everyone, a hymn to the courage to know how to turn over a new leaf and the courage to know how to fill the blank pages of one's life with new words.

Now, with WATER the Musical, Radwan's voice resounds on stage, and his message is a true gift.
